The purpose of this project was to create a brand Identity or brand refresh for a business of our own choice.
What is Refuge coffee shop?
In the corner of Clarkston’s downtown parking lot is a bright red food truck selling artisanal coffee, the kind of sleek minimalist outfit that would not look out of place in San Francisco or New York, under the logo reading “Refuge Coffee”. It was founded by a recent American arrival. Refuge coffee shop provides employment and job-training opportunities to resettled refugees, to create a unique, welcoming gathering place in Clarkston, and to tell a more beautiful refugee story to Atlanta.
Using the original logo of Refuge coffee shop, I created a set of unified deliverables to communicate the mission of the coffee shop. My design was inspired by quilt designs and mosaic art as they both share the same concept where an artwork is formed by putting different colored pieces together to make an interesting beautiful work. This concept can be seen in this design where the colors and patterns represent the diverse community of Clarkston.
The strength of our communities comes from people’s ability to live together and work with/and for each other. Refugees normally struggle to find a community to which they feel belonged and connected. The great things I like about Refuge Coffee Co are its welcoming environment, empowering values and great mission that helped creating a beautiful diverse space for people to connect and chat over a cup of coffee!
Our differences make us unique and together we are beautiful!
The design set includes stationery, brochure, Promotional items, coasters, coffee and refreshments menus, flag banner and a proposed idea for their fundraising workshops where refugees can make quilts to sell for support.
Update: I’m so happy to announce that I got the opportunity to meet the founder of Refuge Coffee Co, Kitti Murray to talk to her about my work and show her my design. The design is now alive and has been used by Refuge Coffee Co!
